A May Recap
Mermaids, final art, and exciting announcement!
Hello friends!
Hope you all had a fantastic May and you enjoyed my last newsletter about how finding an agent which you can read here if you missed it!
May is always one of my favorite months of the year. Why? Because it’s a whole month dedicated to mermaids! Even though I had a deadline for final art for a picture book June 1st, I managed to draw a couple mermaids. One being one of my favorite personal art pieces I’ve made in quite sometime and the highest performing post on Instagram I’ve had in five years.
I contribute the success of the illustration to it being the first day of Mermay the mermaid drawing challenge in May created by Tom Bancroft. The illustration with success also brought a bit of worry I wouldn’t “live up” to it again. Or that people don’t like my kidlit stuff and only like non kidlit art illustrations. But, I decided to boil it down to just being a popular hashtag I just happened to post at the right time.

I had one other mermaid I never did end up finishing in time because things just got too tight with a looming deadline.
Exciting announcement!
I’m really excited to announce I’m participating in a Taylor Swift fanzine! I have never done one of these before so I was so excited to apply and end up getting picked to participate alongside other amazing artists. If you know me personally you’ll know I’ve loved Taylor Swift since I was 10 years old so this is a very big deal for me. The zine is done by Cosmic Cow Zine they’ve done such wonderful zines before for other fandoms so be sure to check them out! I’ll be sure to keep you all updated about when the zine is up for pre-order/sale! In the meantime, here is the announcement post! Be on the look out for a sneak peek coming soon!
Final Art
I wrapped up final art for two picture books one in April and one in May. I’m now in the final stages for both which is both exciting and nerve racking. It’s been a crazy 6 months to say the least. They’re two very different books but both have amazing stories and messages behind them, I’m very excited to eventually share with you all.

Favs
The Little Mermaid starring the fabulous Halle Bailey. I went to the IMAX pre showing and received a poster that is proudly up on my wall.
“The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo” I finished this book this month and wow what a book!
