Little recap of my month!
Hello Friends! February was full of revisions for me from sending off final sketches for a picture book I’m working on to revising some older illustrations for my portfolio (more on that later). Besides that there isn’t too much to fill you in on February isn’t that much shorter but it you really feel those days when your working on a deadline.
Brushes and Color Dynamics
I thought I would talk a little about my procreate brushes this month to fill in the gaps. As well as promote them a little bit because after this illustration my Apple Pencil decided to die so any purchases of this set really help me offset this unexpected cost. On to the illustration, as a cool down last week I decided to do some fan art or a mock book cover for Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Daisy Jones and the Six. I took this time to really experiment with my style since adult covers aren’t something I usually do. I still wanted to feel like my work so of course I used my brushes BUT I tried playing with the color dynamics on two of them and now I don’t think I can look back. Here’s a look at what I did to the brush settings if you want to try it out for yourself! I also have a tutorial on how I did it on my Instagram .
Here’s the results of what playing with this setting does I find I particularly useful for hair and grass ect.. If you know me you know I love texture so anytime I can emphasize that in my work I take the opportunity. A little about color dynamics basically what it does is every stroke you make there is a hue and saturation shift. I leave mine at a lower percentage because I like the subtlety but play around with it for yourself and see what you like!
The two brushes I used are my Toothy Crayon 2 and Chunky Crayon I just duplicated them and added color dynamics in their brush settings. Now here’s a look at my process for illustrating my Daisy Jones Cover.
Overall, I really like how this turned out! It was fun to do something I little different it still feels like me. Here is a link to my Procreate Brushes if you want to grab them!
A couple older illustrations I edited for my portfolio
Originally this was a one off illustration but I added two extra to give it more narrative. This illustration always gets a great response. Who doesn’t love a messy baby
Another illustration I wanted to give more narrative to. Now we get to see the mom comforting the girl about attending school. It was a sweet moment to capture.
Final thoughts and my February Favs!
Before I wrap things up I wanted to briefly mention my Women’s History Month Coloring Pack I made it last year but since it’s now March I think it would be a fun activity! Definitely let me know if you use them!
Roundup of my favorite things this month!
Chobani Sweet Cream Coffee Creamer
My new adjustable iPad stand I thrifted!
Draw Stronger by Kriota Willberg
Freeform App for IPad great for collecting references and creating mood boards as seen in my Daisy Jones process!
Thank you all as always for reading! Crazy by next newsletter I should be almost done with a picture book! Can’t wait to share more.
Have a great March😊
