Introduction
A newsletter or blog is something I have considered for quite sometime. Somewhere I can share my thoughts, feelings, and updates on my life and career for people who are interested. I’m also going to try and share tutorials or walkthroughs of my illustration process on months where I don’t have much to share. I still have a lot to learn in terms of blogging so please bare with me as I figure this out but I’m very excited to see where this goes and wanted to share some updates from this last month of my life and maybe some goals I have for the new year!
In early November, my agent reached out with an offer from a non-profit Room To Read for a picture book. I was elated of course but the catch was it had a 3 month deadline luckily my wonderful agent negotiated me an extra two months and I signed the contract late December. After Christmas was crunch time as I only had a week to get thumbnails done for the entire 32 page picture book. I have never had a shorter deadline for a project before so I was super nervous (still kind of am) but got those thumbnails done and now we just wait for feedback after this holiday weekend. The good thing about this short deadline is I get to hold the actual book in my hands probably around spring time next year. I’m very excited to keep you all updated with how I handle working on two books at once. In all honesty I’m still very much a newbie in my kidlit journey but ending the year with my 2nd deal really makes me excited for my journey ahead.
So what are my goals for the new year?
Keep up with this newsletter I haven’t decided whether it will be monthly or every other month.
Some more book deals! Would love to also do some work for magazines and chapter books.
Try to attend another art convention.
Improve my work by taking some more online courses.
Very happy with my accomplishments this year, despite it being a hard year for me personally. I’m very much looking forward to a new start in the new year. Thank you all for reading and feel free to subscribe for more! See you all soon.
